Free Tibet flags -- Made in China

Police in southern China have discovered a factory manufacturing Free Tibet flags, media reports say.

The factory in Guangdong had been completing overseas orders for the flag of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Workers said they thought they were just making colourful flags and did not realise their meaning.

But then some of them saw TV images of protesters holding the emblem and they alerted the authorities, according to Hong Kong's Ming Pao newspaper.

The factory owner reportedly told police the emblems had been ordered from outside China, and he did not know that they stood for an independent Tibet.

Workers who had grown suspicious checked the meaning of the flag by going online.

Thousands of flags had already been packed for shipping.

Police believe that some may already have been sent overseas, and could appear in Hong Kong during the Olympic torch relay there this week.

Commemorations are being held across the country today to mark the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Civil Rights Leader and Peace Activist was gunned down on April 4th 1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was just 39 years old.

But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And he has allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen The Promised Land. Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out against what he called "the infinite lengthening of biological life." He made the remarks in a homily delivered to young people in Rome on Sunday.

The pontiff said that even if an 'immortality pill' was found, "the world would fill up with old people; there would be no space for the youth."

"We cannot then, hope for the infinite lengthening of biological life." said Benedict.


"There's just one catch -- Life must end at thirty unless reborn in the fiery ritual of Carrousel."

Never Trust Anyone Over 30

The peace sign turns 50 years old today. Over the past five decades the peace sign has become one of the worlds enduring icons.  

The original peace sign was designed in 1958 by English textile designer and conscientious objector Gerald Holtem of the District Action Committee Against Nuclear War. 

The symbol was used in anti-nuclear demonstrations in Britain and soon spread across the globe. 

Yahweh Hates Homos ??

An outspoken member of Israel's parliament has said recent earthquakes that have hit the country are due to the passage of gay rights laws.

Shlomo Benizri, who is a member of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, was speaking in a Knesset (parliament) debate on earthquake preparedness.

After reading passages from the Old Testament, he said that in his view one cause of earthquakes is that "the Knesset gives legitimacy to sodomy.

"A cost-effective way of averting earthquake damage would be to stop passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the State of Israel, which anyways causes earthquakes."

The chair of Israel's LGBT Association told Ynetnews:

"It is sad that a religious MK (MP) in Israel doesn't think earthquakes are God-made.

"On the other hand, I suppose we should be flattered he attributes us with such magical powers."

Mr Benizri's comments echo those of fundamentalist Christians.

Last July the Rt Rev Graham Dow, the Bishop of Carlisle, shocked the liberal wing of the Church of England by suggesting that floods that caused chaos and death across the UK were caused by God after he was provoked by the introduction of gay equality.

"This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way," he said.

"We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation, as well as the environmental damage that we have caused."

In November 2005 a councillor for the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland tried to blame the gay community for Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans.

Maurice Mills said it was a judgement from God:

"The media failed to report that the hurricane occurred just two days prior to the annual homosexual event called the Southern Decadence Festival, which the previous year had attracted an estimated 125,000 people."

Discovery Channel refuses to air aclaimed film

Taxi to the Darkside will not be seen by viewers of the Discovery Channel, even though the channel purchased exclusive rights to air the film for three years. New management staff at the channel say the movie is "too controversial" to be shown on any of their basic cable channels. This decision effectively bars American citizens from viewing this film, which is an expose of our government's actions in recent years by focusing on the death of a young taxi driver in Afghanistan.

The film is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and was nominated by both The Writer's Guild and The Director's Guild for their annual awards.

Of course every vote is important, remember that fiasco in November of 2000 ?

It's a new century and we have a chance to put the old petty past behind us and move forward and embrace the opportunity we have to make history rather than restore another dynasty to the White House. Remember, the last one didn't do so well.
